Book: Personality theory

Crowne is an authority in personality theory, the subject of this book. It offers a balanced approach of major historic paradigms: psychodynamic, societal-cultural, psychiatric, trait theory, existentialism, phenomenology and humanism, learning theories, and inheritance. As such, the book is heavily weighted on historic perspectives over the current leading theories. However, these are still widely used in treatments throughout the world – especially because some of the more modern theories focus more on describing generic behaviour rather than treating specific individuals.

The book is clearly written and has summary and questions at the end of each section that helps the student learn the material.

My rating: 6/10
